The Plot

Pokémon originally started out as a Nintendo game for Gameboy. Since I don't own a Gameboy, I've never played the game, so I don't know much about it. However, I do know that the game became so popular in Japan that they made a cartoon about it. Later, when the game was introduced in the US, it became popular enough that they decided to bring the cartoon over as well.

You may have remembered hearing at one point, of a cartoon in Japan that was giving people seizures. Yes, that cartoon was Pokémon. The episode that caused the seizures has not been released in the United States although there are rumors that it might be someday, with the seizure scene edited out. I have no valid proof of this, only rumors I have heard.

The basic plot of the Pokémon cartoon show is simple. The people in this cartoon all live on a version of earth that is different from ours. In their world, there is another species of beings known as Pokémon. I am convinced that Pokémon are sentient beings. They have their own language, and not only do they communicate with their own types, but they can communicate with other Pokémon species.

In this world, there is a ten-year-old boy named Ash. He wants, as many children want, to be a Pokémon master. Children of ten years old can get their Pokémon trainers license and set out on their first adventure to capture wild Pokémon. Children are usually given their first Pokémon by the area's Pokémon expert. The usual choices for first Pokémon are Charmander, Squirtle, or Bulbasaur.

Well, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) for Ash, he oversleeps the morning of his adventure and ends up missing out on the usual Pokémon. Instead, the only Pokémon left is Pikachu. At first, Pikachu is none too happy with his new trainer, but as time goes by, they work out their differences.

The show is about Ash's and Pikachu's adventures as they travel around searching for Pokémon. They meet up with other people (Brock and Misty are two friends he makes that join him on his search) and have all sorts of exciting things happen to them.

Of course it's not all fun and games. A group of Pokémon thieves known as "Team Rocket" has decided that the must steal Pikachu, so Ash and his friends spend a lot of time thwarting their plans!
